My trip to Troncones

Hello, I'm glad to be back and writing on my blog again after more than 2 months. This time I'm going to write about my trip to Troncones. Troncones is 6 1/2 hours from SMA in the state of Guerrero.  We (my family and our friends the Dutches) went to a beach in Troncones. We went on the beach almost every day.  It had great waves and it was almost completely deserted.  The most people we saw at one time were 10 or 11.  There was one hotel/restaurant called Mi Casa es Su Casa.  It had phenomenal milkshakes.  It's amazing what a good milkshake can do in the humidity. Once, we went to a turtle home where about once every year they release baby turtles into the ocean.  And then you'll never guess what happened next.  As we were walking back to the house along the beach, I almost stepped on a nest full of turtle eggs!  So we went back to the turtle farm and told the man working there and the next morning the eggs were gone.  Earlier that morning some of the kids had gone out horseback riding (not me, I don't like riding much).  I really love the beach because I love to bodysurf.  For those that don't know, the art of body surfing is waiting until a wave comes toward you and then diving into the wave as is demonstrated in the picture above.  If you get the wave right before it crashes it takes you into shore.  But, if it crashes on top of you then you get "churned" (spun around and around and around in the water).  And that should give you an idea of why I like Troncones.  If it doesn't then let me tell you.  To bodysurf you need big waves and in Troncones there are really big waves.  One other reason I liked the beach is because in the house we rented there was a pool which is good after the salt water. But before you go in the pool you have to take an outdoor shower.  On the ride back my dad bought a pack of habnero beef jerky (there should be an nye in there but my computer can't type it). It was my favorite summer vacation yet.

Home school

Now I'm back and out of school.  I am being home schooled by my mom and my dad and I like it.  You get to learn at your own level and not too far ahead or behind.  Every day I first do math, then grammar and then writing(or in my case, typing). For instance this blog entry is a writing assignment.  I have a 6th grade grammar book and I do roughly 6-10 pages of math a day.  It is great for anyone who is not happy with the way their child is being taught.

The Trip No. 2

For Easter vacation we are going to Nicaragua for two weeks. First we are going to Granada and staying for one week in Casa Consultado.  Then we drive to San Juan del Sur on the west coast and stay at Frinca Las Nubes for the other week.

Finca Las Nubes has authentic farm living for the rustic and luxury accommodations for those who want to live in style.

My piano lessons

I have been taking piano lessons for five months now with a no sign of stopping.  My piano teacher is Elena Shoemaker (no joke that's her name), an American woman who is partly bilingual and a great teacher.  She has this way of telling you you're wrong without making you feel bad.  I will probably take piano classes for the rest of my stay in Mexico.  I know this is one of my shorter blogs, but the babysitter is here an I have to go.  O.K now I'm back and editing this post.  Well, so far I have participated in an Under The Sea play in which I was the jellyfish (starring in the Coelenterate skit). I also played Oh When The Saints Go Marching In.  Also as an added bonus, one of my friends, Griffin Holtby was taking classes with Elena.  He was a sea horse.  Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd my dad was driven in by me to be a dogfish with some of the other local dads such as Brian Cuffney.  He now owns a sports bar called The Zone a.k.a. La Zona so says the sign (because there is some law that says that you must have a spanish sign, I guess).  So that just about wraps up my piano classes.  Good Bye!  

Pros and Cons of San Miguel

Pros: Everything is so close together that you can walk to a friends house 15 minutes away.  By walking you save money and gas:)

There are normally road side taco stands every 20-25 minutes so that you can get some food when you are in a hurry.

El Jardín is a great spot if you want to eat, go sightseeing or just sit around and drink a michelada (a local specialty of a combination of beer, lime juice, chile powder, salt, and salsa inglese (worcestershire sauce).  The jardin is also a spot for local festivities, such as weddings, fireworks, castillos (tall towers of fireworks), music, cultural dancing, and also common holidays: Christmas, New Year's Day, etc.      

Baltimore

Remember when I told you about The Trip?  Well, now you are going to hear about Baltimore, Maryland the place where I lived for 6 years before we came to San Miguel.  On December 23rd, 2010 we arrived in BWI airport at 8:00p.m.  We were picked up by my two grandmothers in a van that was too small for all the baggage in my opinion.  It was very cold outside and we couldn't wait to get home.  The next day we met up with all of the relatives in the house we were staying in ( our house was being rented).  This was my first trip back in 18 months.  And you are probably wondering what my impressions were when I got back.  Well,  I am sure that those of you who have been to Mexico know that Mexico is more eco-friendly than the U.S.A.  For example, in Mexico you walk practically everywhere and in the states, the complete opposite.  If you have too go to a store to get milk what do you do.  YOU DRIVE!  I will continue this in my next post.  Bye!  Bo H.             

The Trip

On December 18th, 2010 my family set out on an 15 hour car ride from San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato to San Antonio, Texas.  This memorable time was a trial of patience for all members of the family.  Redd had a toothache and moaned constantly and Mom and Dad were fed up after 5 hours "on the road again".  But after all this we finally arrived in San Antonio.  Next we took an hours drive to Austin to see Gus and Jeb and stay a night.  The next day we took a nonstop 3 hour plane to Baltimore and so concludes our Trip.

The life of a boy in Mexico

I have been living in San Miguel de Allende for 18 months.  I have understood Spanish for about 15 of these months.  I have gone to a Waldorf school in the country.  At first I did not settle in with the kids in my class, but after I learned to communicate I eventually started to warm up to them.  In the second semester there was a new arrival.  He was Marky Hensley from California.  He has become my new best friend.  I like it here in Mexico, but on December 20th, 2010 I was extremely happy to see my relatives and friends in Baltimore, Maryland.  When I got back my mom was insisting that SMA is a lot more interesting then MA and I think she's right.  Think.
